News is still a little slow yet as International break winds down, but there are a handful of links to be shared and a new transfer rumor out there for your consumption. Through all the shenanigans of the last week, we haven't heard much from Alan Pardew or the squad-- presumably because they're hard at work figuring out how to stop the Manchester City offensive juggernaut (who have not yet scored fewer than two goals in a game and are averaging 3.5 per). Here's hoping for a strategic masterstroke a la Stoke City this weekend.
Non-Senior Squad links
Carver believes the reason behind that is that United now have a policy – unlike many Premier League clubs – of keeping first-team stars on their toes by fielding them sporadically in the club’s reserve team. “You want competition for places,” Carver said. “I’ve played in and been involved in reserve games when senior players haven’t been at it, but that’s not been the case with us. We’ve involved senior players in some reserve games and made sure they’re in the right position to take advantage of any opportunities. “We’ve done things properly, and that’s given the players the best chance to take those opportunities.”
I think that this situation is more of a reaction to need than a conscious decision, but who am I to argue. I suppose they could be leaving the likes of Marveaux and Lovenkrands and Guthrie on the bench for the Reserves matches...
One of our many goalkeepers that have been loaned out. Jak hopes to be the next Newcastle No. 1, as does Fraser and Ole and...
There is a lot to happen between here and there (Heed need to win another Cup match, for one), but this would be a lot of fun for the Newcastle area if it would happen.
Alain Traore is your newest transfer link! I went searching around on him, and there's just not very much in English around... tons of material if anyone reads French, however. What I do know: Alain is 22, a midfielder, and is currently Auxerre's leading scorer on 6 goals.
Senior Squad Links
I'm not really sure how to file this. Best and Ba have a tremendous understanding and are working extremely well together... but Shola may be fit, or it may be a chance to see HBA in an attacking mid playing just off behind Demba. Surely I'd love to see Leon fit and playing because it's worked tremendously well. Of course now that I think on it, perhaps we don't want HBA out there this weekend with that butcher De Jong still running about.
They’ve been in fantastic form this season. The players they’ve got are world-class players and on their day they will beat anybody. “But we don’t fear them, to us they’re just names and we have to treat them like we have other teams all season.”
IF the squad are taking as much motivation and have as much focus as it seems they have, we may just give City a match this weekend.
Not being afraid is well and good... finding a way to stop the City offense is quite another matter...
