Newcastle Links: NUFC signs Gouffran

Jamie McDonald

In desperate need of goals, Newcastle have signed Yoan Gouffran. The Frenchman impressed manage Alan Pardew when NUFC met up with Gouffran's Bordeaux in the Europa League. Gouffran scored two goals in the Group Stage of the Europa League, though none came against the Magpies.

Gouffran had earlier announced on Twitter that he was headed to Newcastle.

Gouffran will hopefully bring a bit of scoring to the Magpies. Upon departing Bordeaux, the 26-year old had 8 goals in 20 games of Ligue 1 play. Last season he scored 14 goals in 31 games.

Gouffran had just six months remaining on his contract with Bordeaux. His deal with NUFC is for four-and-a-half years.

How will Gouffran's signing impact the rest of the campaign? Vote below in the poll and talk about it in the comments.

In other news:

The current buzz around Colocinni is that he's staying with Newcastle. The Telegraph says he's training with Newcastle. San Lorenzo has said they cannot sign him, per the Guardian. Of course, it is only January 24, so expect this to change within the day, if not hour. Colocinni will play for Argentina though when they play Sweden in a friendly.

We're rich! The Mag reports that Newcastle is back in the Money League. That means NUFC is one of the 20 wealthiest clubs in the world. Seven Premiere League teams in all are in the Money League, and that will likely mean more English domination in Europe, writes Paul Kelso.

Speaking of the drop, NUFC faces Aston Villa in a six-pointer. Villa boss Paul Lambert says the team will stick together. In addition, captain Ron Vlaar says the players support Lambert.

And in case you missed it, Aston Villa was on the losing side of history in the Capital One Cup.
