Newcastle United have been drawn against Morecambe in the second round of this years' Capital One Cup. The match will take place at Morecambe's Globe Arena later this month. According to Lee Ryder, this will mark the first time Newcastle has faced Morecambe in a competitive match. The Chronicle writer is looking forward to it:

Others might not be so happy, especially given that Newcastle is, once again, headed out on the road in this competition.

Newcastle will look to have a better showing this year, as last year they lost away to Manchester United 2-1 in the third round (though that was Newcastle's first game in the competition, due to their involvement in the Europa League). In 2011-12, Newcastle made it to the fourth round, before bowing out to Blackburn Rovers 4-3, after extra time.
Morecambe play in League 2, the fourth tier on the English football pyramid. They beat Wolverhampton Wanderers in the first round of this tournament. Last year, the Shrimps finished sixteenth in League 2.
