World Cup Week at Coming Home Newcastle gets off to a bad start as one of Newcastle's stars suffered a massive injury.
Bad news for Mathieu Debuchy . Fractured tibia and on crutches after injury on France v Jamaica game. #nufc
— Lee Ryder (@lee_ryder) June 8, 2014
Debuchy was subbed off at halftime of France's tune-up game against Jamaica. France won the match 8-0, with former Magpie Yohan Cabaye scoring a goal.
Debuchy was seen on crutches, as Ryder points out above. It will depend on the type of break, but according to American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, a tibia break takes 4-6 months to recover from, which will keep Debuchy out until October at the least.
Debuchy had said he would not think about his future until after the World Cup. Sadly, he can begin those thoughts sooner than he anticipated. Here's hoping for a speedy and full recovery for him.
UPDATE: Or maybe not. There are reports out of camp that Debuchy is fine.
Panic over. No idea where the fracture rumour comes from. Debuchy just felt a bit of a strain when running.
