It sounds like there are reports that Yohan Cabaye is training with the French team for their game vs. Bosnia, which is encouraging for the long-term repercussions form the ankle-stamp that he took on Saturday, but brings the possibility that he gets damaged further if he ends up playing. Tuesday morning links following the jump!
Wrapping The Entertainers Reunion
Terry McDermott praises Entertainers reunion - NUFC Latest News - Newcastle United - ChronicleLive
Supporters are the winners in Entertainers 'rematch' - NUFC News - NUFC - JournalLive
If you read only one of these I would recommend the second (which includes an interview video and a photo gallery). I would just like to state one last time my jealousy of Lee Ryder for his access to this event. :)
Other Charitable Activities
The original letters of Newcastle United from the famous internal view o f St. James' Park (that now famously includes sportsdirect.com) have been replaced, and are being auctioned off on eBay. Proceeds to be donated to charity. If I'm reading this correctly, the letters were added only in 1996, which causes me to question the overwhelming reaction when the addition was made in August. . . That was around the time I came to the club, so it's all I had ever known, so I was a little sad, but it is in no way the institution that I believed it to be.
Gibbo: When Shearer and Gazza saved Gateshead - NUFC Columnists - Newcastle United - ChronicleLive
If anyone wanted to start a "graphic novel" serial called Shearer and Gazza in which two of our favorite Geordies go around the world doing good, that would be fine with me. I'll link it.
Fitness
Pardew sweating on fitness of Yohan Cabaye - NUFC Latest News - Newcastle United - ChronicleLive
There is a report via Twitter that Yohan is training with the French squad, but I have nothing to verify that at this point, so I leave this link in as my latest credible information.
Ameobi fit to face Spurs | Newcastle United, Fixtures, Results, Transfers | Sky Sports
We're inching closer and closer to a 100% health record (assuming that Cabaye makes it through the match tonight with France). As it stands at this point, Shola is going to have a role to play yet this year with Demba Ba to head off to ACON in January. I doubt he gets the nod this weekend, but I'd count on seeing him sometime during the next week, most likely against Blackburn in the cup.
What Could Have Been/What Might Be
Steven Gerrard to Chelsea - Alan Shearer to Manchester United | Give Me Football
I'm certain that we all were aware of Shearer turning down Manchester United, but there are a couple of other interesting tidbits that escaped my radar that were included in this little list. Not related to anything, just a little bit of fun.
Newcastle United's Davide Santon was close to joining Roma - Goal.com
So it seems that there was at least one other club in after Santon this summer.
Newcastle keeper tipped for coaching role - Black & White - Shields Gazette
The thought of Stevie Harper coaching 'keepers is nice. . . I just hope that it is a later rather than sooner situation. It's not that I don't have faith in Rob Elliott... it's just that based on his performance in the cup, he's awful. He was Charlton's #1 and was getting games, so it's not like the "hey he was rusty!" argument holds much water.
Leon Best: Interview of the day, it seems
Best issues warning | Sky Sports | Football | Premier League | News
I know where Leon is coming from on this... but let's go ahead and let the league sleep on us. Wouldn't it be more fun that way?
Newcastle striker Leon Best happy to turn provider | Give Me Football
It looks like this article is at least partially based on the same interview. It's interesting the different points of emphasis that different news outlets take.
