Newcastle United Thursday Links: Head In The Sand Edition

Getty Images

Thursday starts the weekend! At least it would be awesome if it did. Grab your coffee and follow the jump for a very quick tour of the news regarding Newcastle United! Mehdi, Tim, Cheik and Shane make up the links post today. I am purposely avoiding "sky is falling" type stories like the "Manchester United lining up double swoop for Tiote and Cabaye" type stories because I really don't think that is within the realm of possibility... so the links are a little skinnier today. Jump! Read! Comment! :)

The Press Association: Pardew puts big price on Tiote

"We have one or two players here that top clubs, I'm sure, will be interested in, but the one thing I would say on that is that they are going to have to pay a lot of money to take anybody out of here because we are obviously in a good position, not just on the playing side, but financially as well. "In terms of players coming in, there is certainly one player who will come in and we are hoping maybe two - if we don't lose anybody."

If we don't lose anybody, we're getting definitely one, maybe two? Are you kidding me? We need definitely one, maybe two CBs not counting Maiga. Frustration reserved, but yeah.

Abeid ready to play (From The Northern Echo)

While Fabricio Coloccini may return at the weekend, Pardew is missing Steven Taylor, Danny Guthrie, Cheik Tiote, and Dan Gosling received a three-match suspension for his dismissal at Carrow Road. Alan Smith is tipped to be involved, but summer signing Abeid is more than ready should Pardew call on him to provide the bite in midfield sorely missing on Saturday. He said: "I hope my chance comes soon - I really want to play for this team. I'll wait for my chance, and when I get it, I hope to do well and show what I can do. I hope to do a lot for this club."

Mehdi is an exciting player... I wouldn't mind to see him in the starting XI on Saturday.

I guess I didn't register that Shane had been recovering from a thigh injury... the more you know.

Newcastle: Tim Krul targets place in Holland Euro 2012 squad to cap breakthrough season - News - MirrorFootball.co.uk

Tim Krul traces the moment he knew he could make it as a top Premier League keeper to a busy night in Sicily five years ago. Back then, a spindly 17-year-old Krul - a last-gasp call up to Newcastle’s UEFA Cup team because of injuries - kept Palermo at bay to clinch a 1-0 win for the Geordies. Now, Krul is challenging to be considered the Prem’s top keeper, and hopes the "bond" he forged with the Toon Army that night in Italy will see him push on and become Holland’s No.1 - or at the very least book a spot in their squad for Euro 2012.
