Reports: Newcastle One Step Closer to Mevlut Erding Move

According to The Daily Express, Newcastle and Paris Saint-Germain have agreed on a £6.5 million transfer fee for 24 year-old striker Mevlut Erdinç.  Newcastle and Erding have been connected in rumors for several weeks now, and though Erding has insisted that he wants to stay at PSG and fight for his starting spot despite the arrival of Kevin Gameiro, the Toon never appeared to waver in their pursuit of the player.

The deal is far from over - Erding is rumored to want at least £60,000 per week, and Newcastle have notoriously and suddenly become very stingy in that department - but news of progress will be welcomed by the Toon Army, who have seen their club go goal-less against American sides in their last two matches.

Should Erding eventually wind up in black and white stripes, he will likely be the second half of an all-new striking duo for the Magpies this season, who struggled to score goals following the sale of Andy Carroll in January.  Mevlut provides plenty of pace and finesse, which would ostensibly be a good foil to Demba Ba's strength and large presence.

Updates as they happen.
