Time.... is marching on. . . and time.... is still marching on! It's Thursday, then and our top of the table showdown with Spurs is just over 48 hours away. Rumors are flying around with the England post being open, and (although unlikely) the landscape of that match could be completely different by the time it kicks off.
Let me go ahead and jump into the links today, as my poetic wax is low this morning. Here we go.
Pardew said: "Firstly, as an Englishman, I’m proud to be in the frame. "But I want to make it clear I’m not in the running. I’m very happy at Newcastle. "We’ve got a project here, and it’s going very well. "Because of the passion, and everything about the place, I want to stay here. "I’m quite happy where I am. I want to stay here and see the job through.
...exactly what everyone expected AP to say following the rumor mill starting up.
Newcastle United striker Best set to miss rest of season - Black & White - Shields Gazette
We’ve been unlucky and lost three or four players to long-term injuries – Steven Taylor, Sylvain Marveaux and Sammy Ameobi." Pardew added that Ryan Taylor – who suffered an ankle injury against Villa – was doubtful for Saturday’s game at Tottenham Hotspur.
Adding Besty to the list. There is discussion to be had about Leon's future... I think that particularly if we qualify for Europe, it doesn't make sense to sell him on... but if not, he certainly is down the pecking order now, and especially so if we draft in a new striker over the summer.
Pardew: I will not risk touch and go Taylor - NUFC Latest News - Newcastle United - ChronicleLive
ALAN PARDEW has indicated he will not risk ankle victim Ryan Taylor for Saturday night’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur, with the derby cult hero described as "touch and go" for the top-of-the-table clash. The Scouser has been attempting to be fit for White Hart Lane this week and used his new Twitter site to prove that anti-swelling techniques in the world of physiotherapy have come a long way since using a bag of frozen peas to deal with knocks.
Raylor, it seems, could go... Alan says he won't go... so Ryan will probably make a surprise start on Saturday.
David Ginola released from hospital after skiing accident | Mail Online
Former footballer David Ginola has been discharged from hospital after suffering injuries during a skiing accident. The 45-year-old Frenchman, who played for a number of Premier League clubs including Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United, crashed into another skier in the Alpine resort of Portes du Mont Blanc.
Initially reports were out in the Twitters that Ginola was in a coma following the accident... although broken collar bone and 5 ribs is not "good," it's still better than what was out there yesterday.
BBC Sport - Danny Guthrie credits Newcastle United squad depth
Newcastle United midfielder Danny Guthrie has said competition within the squad has been a factor in the club's Premier League success this season. Guthrie and James Perch have deputised in the absence of midfield duo Chieck Tiote and Yohan Cabaye to highlight the depth in Alan Pardew's side. "It's been part of the recipe for success," Guthrie told BBC Newcastle. "It's healthy and it gives the manager great options when players are injured or suspended."
Guthrie provided at popular request. He isright, we have benefited from our squad depth. At the singular position of center midfield.
Fraser Forster delays decision on NUFC future - NUFC Latest News - Newcastle United - ChronicleLive
Sources in Glasgow, though, say that while a £2m fee was thrashed out between United and Celtic, personal terms remain unresolved and that Forster has asked to revisit the situation in the summer. Current Newcastle No 1 Tim Krul has yet to sit down and talk about a new deal at any length and his current contract will hit the final 12 months this summer. Krul has been a target of Tottenham Hotspur and a clutch of teams on the Continent are also monitoring his situation.
Forster leaving the Toon maybe not quite so set in stone as it might have seemed. I suppose it's going to matter if we keep Krul or not.
MIKE ASHLEY today flew into Newcastle United's training ground to discuss plans for the future with Alan Pardew. The Magpies owner arrived in trademark fashion via his own private helicopter
Supposedly this trip was also to make progress on the contracts of Danny Simpson and Fabricio Coloccini. I hope they made some... it'd be a shame to waste a good helicopter ride.
Sir Les backs Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse - NUFC Latest News - Newcastle United - ChronicleLive
LES FERDINAND has backed Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse to be "as potent" as his very own dream partnership with Alan Shearer at Newcastle United. The Toon Army still have fond memories of Shearer and Ferdinand’s devastating partnership in the United frontline back in the 1996/97 season when the pair grabbed a staggering tally of 44 goals between them. The partnership was scandalously cut short after just one season after Kenny Dalglish and Freddy Shepherd saw fit to flog Sir Les to Tottenham Hotspur in 1997, a move that instantly backfired as Shearer was badly injured just days later in a pre-season friendly at Goodison Park – in an incident that resulted in the Magpies’ plummeting from second best to 13th best in the top flight in just 12 months.
This talk is not going to go away... let's just hope it doesn't negatively impact Double Demba (not that I expect it to...)
