Deep into stoppage time against Southampton, Massaio Haidara was on the receiving end of a dangerous tackle from the Saints' Morgan Schneiderlin. The tackle may have brought back visions of last year's Wigan's game. It certainly did for the Newcastle touchline.

Wanting a red card, the Newcastle bench was furious. THe Southampton bench reacted, and there was pushing and shoving. There are allegations that Newcastle's goal keeping coach, Tony Woodman, was kicked and spat upon in the altercation. Woodman and his Southampton counter-part were sent to the stands following the incident.

The arguments continued into the hallway, though both managers say there is no hard feelings.

Newcastle's Alan Pardew:

"I'll have a look at the footage of what went on behind me and I'll maybe have a word with one or two if I need to," Pardew said. "But it wasn't just us. I said to their manager ‘get yourself back on the bench and I'll get mine back on the bench, let's just get on with the bloody battle that's meant to be happening out there, not this silly stuff'. That's what we did."

The referee's report of the match is due today. We should know more about any Newcastle punishment soon.
