Newcastle earned their first win at Old Trafford with a 1-0 win on Saturday. It took a bit of luck, some brave defending, and some skill to run out the clock for Newcastle to have their historic day.

Newcastle got the first goal of the match off the boot of Yohan Cabaye in the 61st minute. The play started when Sissoko got a lucky bounce on an ariel down the right hand side. With space, Sissoko weighted a pass perfectly to Cabaye who made no mistake from the top of the 18-yard box to give the visitors the lead.

The lead came after Manchester United made an impressive start to the first half. Newcastle were put under pressure numerous times by a livelier Red Devils attack, but Tim Krul stood tall and kept the ball out.

Manchester United seemed to equalize in the 71st minute when Robert van Persie put in a header. But, the flag was up on an offsides and Newcastle held on to the lead for the moment.

The first half saw Newcastle give away some silly fouls and free kicks, but otherwise have a comfortable 45 minutes. The Magpies held possession, frustrated Manchester United, and had a few chances of their own. The best came in the 45th minute when Mathieu Debuchy made a clever run behind the Man U defense. He received a perfectly weighted ball, but his shot was saved.

Newcastle put plenty of numbers behind the ball in the first half, not letting Manchester United get much going on the attack. The Red Devils did have their spells, but rarely threatened Tim Krul. The midfield was clogged up with Magpies, and it disrupted the rhythm of the home side.

It took some brave defending after Cabaye's goal to keep Manchester United out, but the Devils clearly don't have the quality that they once did. Newcastle held on for the 1-0 win.
