The French revolution on Tyneside might continue, should Newcastle decide to bring in midfielder Mathieu Valbuena. Valbuena has played with French side Marseille since 2006, appearing in 198 games and scoring 23 goals for L'OM. In addition, he's made 20 appearances for the French national team, scoring five international goals.
According to this article from Sky Sports, Valbuena is happy with where he's at, but won't rule out a move either.
"My contract has been automatically prolonged for one season due to Champions League qualification," he told L'Equipe.
"But we will see what happens in the summer."
Valbuena has also been linked with Arsenal. When asked why he doesn't attract more attention, he said (according to Google translate), "Maybe (big clubs) think I am bound to OM?" It's hard to read between the lines, but it does seem as if he's open to a move, provided the price is good and the club can compete. He says, "I want to play in a very ambitious and competitive team." While I personally feel that Newcastle can finish in the top half of the league next season, I don't know if they'll be in the running for Champion's League spots. He'd come at a cost, the site Transfer Markt places his value at 13 million pounds.
What do you think? Should Newcastle pursue Valbuena?
