It is, with good reason, that Papiss Cisse is dominating the Newcastle United news at the moment. Our best striker is training alone, due to his protests over Wonga. Now there are rumors that he will be sold, as the two sides can't come to an agreement. This is playing into my personal belief that the club I support always has to do things the hardest way possible, and we'll keep our eyes on the situation.
In the meantime...
Newcastle topped Motherwell 4-2 to open their pre-season. Video highlights can be found from Sky Tyne and Wear. Just based on the highlights, it appears that it was mostly a game to get the lads running. Not a lot of defense to be had (then again, all the highlights are is goals. That said, the goals looked like they came pretty easy).
Manager Alan Pardew says that while the result was nice, he was more concerned with how his side performed. He was pleased, calling it "top drawer".
Also from NUFC's home page, Pardew says Paul Dummett may break into the senior side this year. The Academy graduate had an assist in the 4-2 win.
Newcastle is off to Portugal, and they are in for a tough pre-season according to Pardew. Steven Taylor says they certainly aren't on holiday as the Mags prepare for the season.
In case you thought the transfer window was closed, Newcastle is linked to two French strikers: Bafetimbi Gomis and Andre-Pierre Gignac. There are some qualms over the price tag for Gignac (12 million pounds), and Aston Villa are also trying to sign Gomis, according to Lyon's owner.
