Loic Remy injured, likely to miss Newcastle United opener

Newcastle United's newest striker will miss the opening of the season with an injury.

Clive Rose

Newcastle United completed a season-long loan deal for French striker Loic Remy on Monday, but the Toon won't have his services for the start of the 2013 season because of a pre-existing injury, though it's believed to just be a minor knock.

Remy isn't expected to start against Manchester City to start the season, but there is still a chance he could be available on the bench. It's a bit of a disappointment that Remy can't make his debut on Monday night for the Magpies, but at least the injury isn't minor.

The Toon are still trying to bring in Bafetimbi Gomis from Lyon, but there appear to be some snags and possibly foul play in the deal from other clubs.
