Newcastle United Transfer Window Live

Julian Finney

Happy Deadline Day! If Newcastle are to get a signing over the line* this summer, it will have to happen today. The Toon have notoriously had a lackluster window, signing youngster Olivier Kemen to the reserves and bringing in Loic Remy on loan, while watching out of contract players Danny Simpson and Steve Harper sign elsewhere. Will today be the last day Yohan Cabaye walks this earth as a Newcastle player? (Maybe.) Will Bafetimbi Gomis post cryptic information on his Instagram account, causing overreactions by fans? (Definitely.) Will anybody hold up a black and white shirt next to a triumphant Joe Kinnear? (Ask Again Later.) We'll be following the action live here. Feel free to share any information you might find in the comments section, or simply use this space to rant and rave if you wish.

*A phrase I could go without hearing for the rest of my days and be perfectly happy.

UPDATE 1232: La Provence is reporting that Marseille believe they will be keeping NUFC target Andre Ayew today. Joe Kinnear recently turned up at an OM match, presumably to scout Ayew. - RLB

UPDATE 1246: Here's a gem from @PearceSport:

@Pearcesport: I'm told Mike Ashley let Cabaye listen to phone negotiations last week + he heard Arsenal say: "25 million a lot for a reserve" #moodchanger

UPDATE 1300: Still catching up on earlier reports: Sky Sports is reporting that a Bafetimbi Gomis deal between Lyon and Newcastle has again "collapsed," meaning the striker will not be moving on this summer, despite being out of contract next year. Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas is quoted in the article, and the gist of the statement is that it's too late in the window to reinvest any money they might receive from a sale. - RLB

UPDATE 1350: All is quiet on the Newcastle front. Call me pessimistic, but any sort of business at all would shock me. - RLB

UPDATE 1358: Lee Ryder: #nufc were told the figures for Ba last week. £3million for a loan or £12million permanent. #Arsenal

Wages would probably hold this deal up, but £12 million actually sounds pretty reasonable. Alas. - RLB

UPDATE 1419: According to multiple sources, Florian Thauvin has passed a medical at Marseille. Thauvin was reportedly a target for Joe Kinnear, but this move could open the door for Ayew to leave. Let the speculation continue. - RLB

UPDATE 1425: Multiple sources, including Sky Sports and Lee Ryder, are reporting that Newcastle and Watford are in negotiations over England U21 international goalkeeper Jonathan Bond, who has spent the better part of the last two seasons on loan at various lower-level clubs. - RLB

UPDATE 1442: George Caulkin on Twitter regarding Bond: "Not going to happen."

UPDATE 1545: Demba Ba is still yet to make a move; Sky Sports saying Chelsea's preferred destinations are West Ham or Roma.

UPDATE 1634: We've nothing to report, unless you count Sports Direct News trying to make a Cabaye move happen, one exclusive at a time. - RLB

UPDATE 1651: David Craig is reporting on Sky Sports News that Yohan Cabaye will be staying at Newcastle. Pardon my pessimism, but that sounds like the kiss of death. - RLB

UPDATE 1836: "Sources" on twitter reporting that Newcastle United have turned back an enquiry about Hatem Ben Arfa from AS Monaco - JM

UPDATE 2138:  We haven't forgotten about you guys... there's just literally nothing on.  It may pick up here soon with a "we tried" bid or two in the last hour. - JM

UPDATE 2152:  English-language Get French Football is reporting Newcastle had two bids turned down for French central midfielder Ngolo Kante - the second for £2.75m.  Caen said to value the player at £4m.  No other confirmation of bid, however. -JM

UPDATE 2208:  Allegedly, "imposters" were negotiating and scuppered Manchester United transfer for Ander Herrera, leaving them a CM short of where they thought they would be.  Hold on to your hats, SDN might have got their wish. -JM
