Transfer Deadline Day: Catching Up With Some Rumors

Just in case you were still holding out hope, here are updates on a couple of recent transfer rumors regarding Newcastle United.

Despite the anticipation of 0 moves to be made by Newcastle United, there have been a couple of rumors recently involving the Toon.  Let's check in on three of them:

Demba Ba

The Newcastle goal-scoring talisman is superfluous to needs at Chelsea (frankly, you could argue he started out that way even though they "only had Fernando Torres" at the time he was purchased) and was rumored to be available on a £3m loan with £9m option to buy deal.  Although there seemed to be chemistry issues between he and Papiss Cissé, Ba had proven that he could score with the current Newcastle squad, which is important when nothing has changed.

Current twitter patter between Mark Douglas and Luke Edwards indicates that Ba is destined for Arsenal while Roma are also rumored in the conversation.  Let's be honest - at £3m just for the loan, Mike and Bedo were out from the word start here.

James McCarthy

The Wigan Athletic central midfielder has been rumored with Newcastle United, mostly in the light of an "If Cabaye leaves" kind of situation but the 22-year old is pretty highly rated by many people.  Dave Whelan was quoted in The Shields Gazette as saying:

"I broke my leg in a cup final at Wembley"

"Newcastle have not made a real offer.

"When you start talking over £10m, they have to think about it.

"You’ve got to be talking £14m or maybe a little more for James.

Well - I can't prove he said that first thing.  I added that... but you KNOW he did.  At any rate, he does two things in this article: acknowledge that Newcastle won't spend money and say that it's most likely Everton come up with the cash to prise McCarthy away.

Bafétimbi Gomis

Was there anyone out there still thinking that this one was going to happen?  He is going to be someone's reinforcement.  Lyon's.
