Newcastle United defeated Leeds United 2-0 at St James' Park Wednesday to advance to the fourth round of the Football League Cup.
Papiss Cisse scored his first goal in 1005 minutes when he found the back of the net with a header from a Sammy Ameobi cross in the 30th minute. Both teams had other chances, but it was the Magpies who went into the dressing room up 1-0 at the break. Leeds had a brief spell of threatening possession, but Ameobi provided Yoan Gouffran with a ball on the edge of the box in the 67th minute, and the Frenchman finished brilliantly on a turnaround shot. Gabriel Obertan had a breakaway that should have resulted in a goal saved a few minutes later, but the margin was enough as Leeds never really threatened Tim Krul's goal the rest of the way.
The deadline for this match will be 0001 BST on Friday, and we will have results for you that same day.
