You might have heard that Sunderland lost to Southampton Saturday. It wasn't just a loss - it was a 0-8 drubbing that featured two own goals that were each comical in their own way. We're not here to revel in their misery, however, so much as point out something really depressing about Newcastle's season to this point. Even after that incredibly embarrassing blowout and a 1-0 win for the Toon on the same day, NUFC has just barely passed the mackems in goal differential. Check it out:

That's right - it took an 8 goal loss for Sunderland and a clean sheet for Newcastle to pass them in the goals allowed department. And that's through just EIGHT matches. Oh, and there's still that whole "looking up at them in the table" thing. What a terrible start to the season this has been.
