Newcastle United right back Daryl Janmaat will miss time with Holland during this week's international break with a right hamstring injury, according to The Chronicle. Janmaat has pretty much been the lone bright spot on an otherwise terrible defensive line for Newcastle. The Toon have allowed the third-most goals in the league (14) through 7 matches, despite playing what most consider a fairly light schedule. They have just one clean sheet so far.
Just as importantly, Janmaat has emerged as a legitimate option moving forward, something that is not in abundance on Tyneside. His early crossing has given opposing defenders troubles and he averages just under 1 key pass per game, according to whoscored.com.
The Dutchman has appeared in every league match so far, and it's unclear who would be his replacement if he is unable to return from the injury in just under two weeks against Leicester City. Alan Pardew could play both of his uninjured left backs, which would be the most Alan Pardew thing ever. Another option could be Ryan Taylor, who returned from his own long-term injury last week in a reserves match. Taylor last appeared for the Magpies in a Europa League match in August 2012.
Get well soon, Daryl, or we're screwed. even more screwed than before.
