Yet another shocking win: An instant reaction to Newcastle 1, Liverpool 0

Is this real life?

Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, and Liverpool, all in one week. Newcastle United won every single one of them. They conceded one goal during that stretch.

Newcastle sat in the relegation zone just a week ago and were long shots to advance in the League Cup, and they exceeded expectations at every turn. When all is said and done, this might not just be the week that saved Newcastle's season - it could be the week that made it.

So many players are playing with confidence right now - Fabricio Coloccini and Steven Taylor seem to have an understanding with each other and the young lads up front are causing all kinds of problems with their pace. Perhaps no player is more in form than Moussa Sissoko, who set up Ayoze Perez's goal, almost set up several others, and did plenty of disrupting in the defensive third.

The discipline was a bit worrisome, and there were opportunities that should have been finished, but we'd be ungrateful for complaining. This has been a famous stretch for Newcastle United, and the question now will be about whether or not they can keep it going against the likes of West Bromwich Albion and Queens Park Rangers.

Uh, we were way off:
