FA Cup Third Round draw: Newcastle must travel again

The third round tie with Leicester marks the fifth time that Newcastle will have to travel for a cup match this season.

Newcastle United were drawn against Leicester City in the third round of the FA Cup on Monday.

Leicester sit on the bottom of the Premier League table, and Newcastle defeated them 1-0 recently, so it's not a terrible matchup, but it's yet another away cup tie. The Toon have been drawn away in all four of their League Cup matchups so far. Many fans were hoping to stay in the North East, if not for a home game, then for a matchup with a lower league club like Gateshead, Blyth Spartans, or Middlesborough, all of whom are still alive at this stage of the competition. Spartans will host Birmingham City, while the Heed will make the trip to West Brom.

This match will be played the week of 3 January, which puts it right in between contests with Burnley, currently scheduled for 1 January at St James' Park, and Chelsea, scheduled for 10 January at Stamford Bridge. For Leicester, this date is bookended by Liverpool at home and Aston Villa away.
