Newcastle United defeated Crystal Palace 1-0 on a 94th minute winner from Papiss Cisse Saturday. It was a frustrating affair, in that Newcastle enjoyed the lion's share of possession, yet had little end product. They also narrowly escaped conceding against the run of play, as Yannick Bolasie had two superb shots go slightly off target.
In the end, though, this match is about Cisse and his first goal from open play this season. He worked hard for it all day, and it looked like it would end in agony when he missed from point blank range in the 92nd minute after a Cheik Tiote shot (!) went off the bar and he was unable to control the subsequent cross. Newcastle then countered following a Mike Williamson tackle, and Cisse converted Hatem Ben Arfa's delivery to turn what would have been a bitter memory into a sweet one.
Aside from Cisse's goal, there was one other bright spot:
Cisse approaches #nufc bench, says something. Carver waves tactical fingers. Carver turns to bench: "I haven't a clue what he said."
