Toon Crier: Pre-season kicks off

As you heard yesterday, Newcastle have signed Daryl Janmaat from Dutch side Feyenoord. Janmaat is expected to be a replacement for Mathieu Debuchy, who is set to be announced by Arsenal this week.

Newcastle are still looking to recruit some strikers.

There had been some rumors that Loic Remy would come back to Newcastle, in sort of a, well no one would really pay me, so I guess I'll go back, sort of deal. That seems to be squashed as teams that finished in the top four can get him for a discounted rate. That seems a bit backwards to me, but QPR signed off on it.

The pre-season begins today with a match against Oldham. So, we can get our first look at Ayoze Perez, amongst others.

This is the third friendly for Oldham, and they have some new signings of their own.
