Southampton Dazzle Newcastle United With Display Of Premier League Football: NUFC 0 - 4 SFC

With Alan Pardew supposedly on the hot seat, Newcastle United came up trumps for their manager with a lifeless performance v. Southampton.

Richard Heathcote

This match was over from the first kick.  Southampton poured the pressure on Newcastle from the start and probably should have been up two or three goals in the first 5 minutes.  Newcastle's defense looked completely disinterested in doing anything at all and were exposed once again for Southampton's opener which finally came in the 5th minute.  Spurred into life by a poor opening to the season and a manager on the hot seat and conceding yet another early goal, Newcastle buckled down and got to the business of conceding again.

It took another 14 minutes, but the next goal did come and Newcastle looked happy enough to just keep it to 2-0 instead of, you know, trying to get it to 2-1 or anything like that.  Cheik Tiote came in for the second half and got his obligatory yellow card which was exciting.... it wasn't great value at all, however.  Tiote did kick the So'ton player, but did not make good contact... probably not even leaving a mark.

Who am I kidding?  This display was insipid and disinterested.  But hey, Riviére missed a wide open net from 10 yards, so that was fun.  The two clubs were leagues apart on the day and will end this day as far apart in the table.  This club is dying on the vine... something must be done.

EDIT:  In the third minute of stoppage time, we managed to give up another.  final score 4-0.
