It's time for a reset on the latest transfer rumors and news surrounding Newcastle United. Today, we acknowledge stories about Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Papiss Cissé, and possible unrest from Davide Santon. You'll notice the lack of stories about possible purchases. Not even the tabloids can pretend that Newcastle are interested in improving their squad.

This deserves to be at the top. What a great story.
Newcastle transfers: Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa axed by Roma ONE game short of triggering £5.5m deal | Mirror Online
Poor Yanga-Mbiwa - caught between two clubs playing games with his heart. There's been talk in the blogosphere about recalling Mbiwa, but based on how he's become a regular part of the Roma rotation, there's little chance of that happening. Besides, with John Carver in charge, who says he'd get a game here? Looks like he's not going to play no matter what.
Newcastle United players urge club to make decision about new manager | The Guardian
The players would appear to be okay with Carver, and it's looking increasingly like a new permanent manager won't be in place until the summer. None of this is surprising - just about every candidate that hasn't rejected Newcastle outright has said they won't come now, and what player is going to say something negative about the man in charge of their playing time when asked directly? Still, there's something disconcerting about seeing it in print. NUFC need to put their man in place, whoever he is.
Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse wanted by Swansea City to replace Wilfried Bony | Telegraph
According to Luke Edwards, Newcastle have set Cissé's price at £7 million. That seems low, but he's getting older and hasn't played 90 minutes in quite some time, thanks to his patella fracture last year. Still, can Newcastle afford to sell their most consistent striker? (No.)
I’ve come back stronger than ever, says Davide Santon | Shields Gazette
The money quote, in my opinion: "I just want to play – for my fitness and for myself. I’m 24 years old."
Transfer news: No approaches have been made for Danny Ings, says Burnley boss Sean Dyche | Football News | Sky Sports
Just confirmation that Newcastle aren't actually pursuing anybody.

Mike Ashley to Rangers could still happen. I'm not holding my breath.

Just more waffle.
Meanwhile, I thought this was fun, in a sad way:
Brilliant tactics from Newcastle board to delay appointing their new manager so they don't have to buy any players in the transfer window.
