REPORT: Hatem Ben Arfa's Newcastle United Career Is Over

New, comment

The talented if frustrating Frenchman has reportedly agreed a permanent move away from St. James' Park.

If there were any hopes out there that the departure of Alan Pardew would lead to a triumphant return of the prodigal Frenchman, those hopes now look to have been dashed.  According to a report from The Chronicle, Hatem Ben Arfa has agreed a transfer to Ligue 1 side Nice, pending a physical.  Although citing the somewhat nebulous source "French media", it could hardly be considered a surprise if this report has legs.  The loan move of Ben Arfa to Hull City at the 12th-and-a-half hour of the summer transfer window put many Toon fans in a despondent mood at the end of yet another transfer window, but it seems that many of the rumors about attitude and fitness that predicated the loan move have been held up at Hull City.  Alan Pardew's favorite dog-house dweller managed to have a poor enough attitude and work rate that Steve Bruce was returning him to his parent club half-way through the agreed loan term.

As with his entire career at Newcastle, opinions will be split on where it all went wrong or what his actual value was – whether he was under- or over-used – but this much we know.  We will always have this:

Good luck Hatem.
