Newcastle United have loaned a second defender to Serie A, this time with Davide Santon heading back to former club Inter Milan.  Reports have indicated that the move is similar to the one which led to Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa joining Roma on a permanent basis following an appearance clause trigger with the permanent move in this case looking to be somewhere in the range of £4m.

Davide's time on Tyneside was a bit of a mixed bag.  When not struggling with injuries, Toon fans could easily see glimpses of the quality that led to the left back being described as the next Paolo Maldini but could also see a player who was a bit inconsistent.  It's hard to figure out what to make of the Italian's time with the club... there are those who say he was a Pardew favorite which is why the club are willing to allow his move away at a net loss which runs contrary to Mike Ashley's SOP.  At the same time, there are those who say that Santon is most suited to playing a wing-back position which Pardew would never have truly employed even though there was a brief period of time in which he could have done so if he were so inclined.

Regardless, Davide Santon will largely remembered as a disappointment as he for whichever reason never lived up to the hype that arrived with him.  He will, however, leave with a measure of fondness as he had spoken highly of Newcastle upon Tyne itself in the past.  We at Coming Home Newcastle wish you luck, Davide.  May you recover from your injuries and achieve at the highest level.
