SHAPING THE SQUAD: Your 2015/16 Newcastle United midfielders

Voting has closed on the second section of Shaping The Squad. You've had your say on the senior squad midfielders, and here's what you thought.

Day two of the voting on who to keep for Newcastle United's 2015-16 squad is in, and the trends are pretty strong.  The wind of change blows straight into the face of time, and you are ready to call time on 4 of the 10 midfield players currently listed on the official site as "senior squad".  Of course, this list includes Rolando Aarons and excludes Mehdi Abeid, but whatever.  Every player will get their day in front of you, the voters.

Originally it had seemed as if there would be some tougher decisions within the midfield ranks, but in practice there were very few "close races".  Only two players (Jonas Gutierrez, Sammy Ameobi) were even within 50 percentage points of total yes and no votes.  In fact, only Sammy (141 yes, 139 no) was even within 10 percentage points of yeses and nos.  Overwhelmingly you either reallllllyyyyy like our midfield players (I'm looking at you, Jack Colback) or you realllllyyyyy don't (ahem Vurnon Anita ahem).

Overall, you have kept two central midfielders, three wingers and one attacking midfielder.  The sentiment that may or may not have entered into retaining Ryan Taylor yesterday was not present today as you have decided that Jonas Gutierrez no longer has a part to play at Newcastle United.  Ultimately, as I mentioned, this was a day full of landslides.

95.5% of you would like to keep Moussa Sissoko, which duh.  Perhaps slightly surprising was the fact that Jack Colback outpaced Sissoko, earning 97.2% yes votes.  Neither of these are particularly surprising, although Sissoko's relative disinterest in the 2014-15 campaign could understandably have translated into a much greater "no" vote total.  The problem is, when he is good, he's soooooo good.  Remy Cabella also earned a spot in the 2015-16 squad by a landslide, garnering only 3.1% of his votes as no.

On the flip side, you guys are really really done with Vurnon Anita.  87.4% are ready to see the back of the diminutive Dutchman.  Also on the way out are Gabriel Obertan and Cheik Tiote.

Following one round, our 2015/16 Newcastle United squad looks like this:

Goalkeeper (1):  Tim Krul

Right back (1):  Daryl Janmaat

Center back (0):

Left back (2):  Paul Dummett, Massadio Haidara

Central Midfield (2):  Moussa Sissoko, Jack Colback

Attacking Midfield (1):  Siem De Jong

Wing Midfield (3):  Sammy Ameobi, Remy Cabella, Rolando Aarons
