It's a storyline that is going to get old over the next 10 matches. Manchester United visit St. James' Park with plenty left to play for as they challenge for Champions League qualification, while Newcastle are still 10 points clear of the relegation zone and 4 points behind the mythical "top 10 finish" that is so coveted by Working Class John Carver™ and the rest of the Newcastle hierarchy. One side with plenty to play for and one side with nothing to play for.
That's not entirely true... WCJC™ is still "auditioning for the head coach job on a permanent basis" (as if the decision hasn't already been made – one way or the other). This fact will not inspire in many Newcastle fans a lot of confidence, but it's what we've got. But hey, Alan Pardew beat Manchester United twice during his time at Newcastle – the only two wins for the club against the Red Devils from 2002 until now – which could bode well as John Carver is not making a strong case that he's not Pardew in disguise. Anyway, it's a late kickoff so there's no reason that you shouldn't self-medicate and take this one on the chin. Let's go.
