Working Class John Carver™ has been give a lift ahead of the Tyne-Wear derby as Mehdi Abeid is set to be in the matchday squad and could take a spot in the midfield alongside Moussa Sissoko (who will captain the squad) and Jack Colback. The Algerian international had looked set to make a big impact on the squad this season following a great loan spell in Greece for 2013-14, but has seen his share of injuries (and Alan Pardew things) hinder him. There is no time like the present, however, and the hope among Toon fans will be that he comes in as a difference maker on Sunday.
Another player who likely could make a huge difference is reportedly very near to a return but not just yet. Rolando Aarons was in contention for the trip to Wearside but according to John Carver "it is too soon" for the winger who showed soooo very much promise and brought sooo very much excitement to the squad at the start of the season. Carver has said repeatedly in his four months in charge that he will not be rushing young players into the squad, and this is another expression of that. Adam Armstrong, who scored about thirteen bajillion goals for England U-18s, saw WCJC™ tap the breaks in the press just a tiny bit, saying "I'll make sure the situation is right for him" about the goal-scoring Geordie.
By and large, Carver will have many of the same players unavailable to him on Sunday as he did against Arsenal. Fabricio Coloccini will be serving the second of his two-match red card suspension, Papiss Cisse is still out for his spitting suspension, while Massadio Haidara is out for the remainder of the season as he has had surgery to remove a cyst from his knee.
Newcastle United squad (lineup to be selected from): Krul, Elliot, Janmaat, Williamson, R.Taylor, Satka, Sterry, Abeid, Anita, Colback, Sissoko, Gouffran, Cabella, Ameobi, Obertan, Gutierrez, Kemen, Riviere, Perez, Armstrong.
