We all remember last weekend, right? Everyone was optimistic about Siem de Jong's potential return to Newcastle's starting XI, and the same with Dummett. Leicester City was coming off a second half collapse against Chelsea. Things were supposed to look up, and we were going to be free from the relegation battle. Then we concede 37 seconds in to the match, Williamson and Janmaat get sent off for careless fouls (all 4 of them) and we lose 3-0 to a now-thriving Leicester City squad. Carver accuses Williamson for getting sent off on purpose, and we're in the thick of the relegation battle once again.
in between Working Class John Carver™ self-proclaiming himself as the greatest coach in the league and insisting Coloccini's open letter to the fans was legit, he drops the bomb on us about the latest rash of injury woes. Paul Dummett and Siem de Jong have gone in for scans, and Adam Armstrong is complaining of a tight calf. Dummett is still a possibility, but de Jong declared himself unavailable. He shared these Tweets with fans:
I'm not injured again, I'm just not strong enough yet. I hope to train again next week and help the team as much as i can the last games 1/2
I've tried to come back as soon as possible after 2 heavy operations. I wish I could have done more! #NUFC 2/2
The only glimmer of hope is the return of Papiss Demba Cisse. He has been involved in training and will hopefully be able to make some sort of impact in this weekend's match.
It's another bleak-looking line-up, and this could not come at a worse time.
