For what seems like months, I've had this recurring dream that I would be able to get to my computer in the morning and type this for you. Perhaps not specifically this but any number of variations on this story. Newcastle United are now tangibly close to making their breakthrough in the summer transfer window. In the finest tradition of TMZ, Giroginio Wijnaldum has been cell-phone videoed arriving at Newcastle International Airport (NCL for you travelers or flight stalkers out there). You can see him here wheeling a bag that appears large enough to hold a decent amount of clothes... perhaps for an extended stay and a trip to America...

He is reported to be undergoing a medical ahead of making the move from PSV to Newcastle permanent. Not only does this news represent a giant "exhale" moment for supporters for the club, it appears that we've got a quality player coming in. Just yesterday you could see knowledgeable sources in Holland comparing him favorably to Memphis Depay based on last season's form. He is flexible as well, preferring the number 10 role (which will undoubtedly be Siem de Jong's to lose) but skilled as a right wing and capable in the center of the park.
If you're excited about the prospect of a Dutch right side, you would be right to be. Here's a little video from a pretty unimportant match last summer in which Daryl Janmaat and Giorginio Wijnaldum link up to pretty decent effect.
The usual disclaimer of "until he's holding the shirt" still is in play here. The player could fail his medical (unlikely) or something else could happen but it's going to be very very hard for the club to miss out on this one at this point.
