Newcastle United's victory streak continues after the club managed a victory against Ipswich Town. Taking an early lead thanks to Ayoze Perez, the club refused to allow Ipswich Town's offense to generate anything, maintaining the lead to take another victory bringing them closer to promotion.
Earlier today Daryl Murphy was not cleared to play, however Rafa Benitez has given update, stating the the former Ipswich Town striker is close to full fitness and should be ready to play soon.
Ipswich Town has struggled offensively to score goals, their defense has been their strongest asset this season. But even their strong defense could not stop a heavily scoring Newcastle United side that has the highest goal differential in the league. Ipswich has struggled over the past few matches bringing home points from draws rather than victories.
Newcastle United is on a completely different track. Taking home another three points, and working on extending their lead over Norwich City. The club is looking like a Premier League club on an ego trip in the Championship. It seems almost as if Newcastle finds it way too easy playing against these sides which is very positive.
Newcastle United's defense has been the strongest it's been all season allowing only four goals in their past five matches. The offense has been on fire, scoring 13 goals in their past five matches!
It is also Newcastle's third clean sheet in their past five matches which showcases an exquisite defense with strong goalkeeping. Once again, Karl Darlow has graced the net with Matz Sels remaining on the bench. An interesting start was the choice to play DeAndre Yedlin over Vurnon Anita.
DeAndre Yedlin is more of an attacking defender, so the choice to play him over Anita likely stems from wanting to pressure Ipswich Town more in their own zone knowing that their defense often is playing back.
Overall, the match was a strong one, and brings Newcastle United closer to their goal of promotion.
