Newcastle United have announced that they have signed Ayoze Perez to a long-tern deal that will see the Spaniard contracted to the club through 2021. Amid constant connections to Tottenham Hotspur (in particular) and other Sky 6 clubs, this is another in a series of decisions and financial commitments by the club that are indicating – as Steve Nicol said on SSN's Deadline Day coverage – that the club are "finally getting it right".
Perez has endeared himself to the Toon Army as he seems to genuinely enjoy playing for the club and has embraced the supporters as much as they have embraced him. He said this about his new contract on the .uk:
The truth is I'm really happy here, so it's a good thing for me - and I hope it's the same for the Geordie family.
"Newcastle gave me everything and I'm really pleased to sign this new contract."
In a January of good news that has seen the club strengthen areas of weakness in the squad – even if they've not reinforced the defense... AGAIN... yet – tying up a player who is as talented as Ayoze is among the finest moves. Many times we've wondered if the worm has finally turned with regards to Mike Ashley's ownership of our club. Maybe this news shows us that it truly has.
