There was a time when Daryl Janmaat was considered a foundational future on the Newcastle back line. Those days appear to be coming to an end. Recent reports have rumored Janmaat to Watford and West Ham United. Watford's need is based on formation changes brought on by new coach Walter Mazzarri, while Slaven Bilić's club is forced to play right winger Michail Antonio out of position.
It is a move Newcastle fans will likely not gnash teeth over considering Janmaat has seen zero playing time in the past two victories, while starting in both matches where Newcastle lost. In the Bristol City win Janmaat was not even a substitute.
Right back continues to be an unsettled position for Rafa Benitez. Vernon Anita has been Rafa' go-to player, and while Anita has been serviceable he is not a long term solution.
To compound one rumor with another Newcastle has been linked to Tottenham Hotspur, and former Sunderland loan, DeAndre Yedlin. The US National player would be a welcomed addition to club, adding not only defensive security, but also an attacking mindset.
With Kevin Mbabu and Jesus Gomez yet to show their value, and with the additional concerns looming at left back, any defender moving out would warrant immediate replacement.
The transfer window closes at midnight on August 31st.
