If you were waiting for the promise of Kevin Mbabu to blossom you can officially step away from that view. Mbabu will be returning home to Switzerland on a season long loan where he will play for BSC Young Boys, better known as Young Boys and Young Boys of Bern.

Mbabu was signed by Newcastle on January 31, 2013 from Servette in the Swiss Super League. The thought was Newcastle were getting a 17 year old defender with a high ceiling. Back then Newcastle United Reserve team manager Willie Donachie had this to say about Mbabu:

"Kevin is strong, confident, skilful and a very good prospect. "He still has a lot to do as he is only 17-years-old, but I saw him playing for Switzerland Under 19s against Scotland and he did really well. "He can play central defence or right-back and if he keeps working hard then he could have a great future in the game."

We here at CHN thought well of him.

Unfortunately Mbabu made no impact during his stay on Tyneside. His first action didn't happen until 2015 when he came in for an injured Massadio Haidara in a Cup match against Sheffield Wednesday. The following weekend he came off the bench against Chelsea when Daryl Janmaat left the pitch due to illness.

In all he saw the pitch a total of five times during his stay with the Magpies. Young Boys finished second in the top flight of Swiss football last season.
