Rafa Benitez must be convinced Adam Armstrong has a place on the pitch within his system. The clubs website is reporting Armstrong has signed a four-year contract that will ensure his services until 2020. Specifics of the deal were not reported, nor was there any mention of whether Adam would once again find himself loaned to another club.
The Geordie fan base will surely want to see the 19 year-old in the black and white considering the knocks on Aleksandar Mitrovic and Dwight Gayle. His 20 goals while playing for Coventry last season is more than enough reason to see if he can show that quality as Newcastle fight for promotion.
That he was also recently called up for England's under-20 squad on ahead of their friendly against Brazil next month should further validate the optimism.
Armstrong's thoughts on the signing:
"I’m over the moon. I’ve been working hard on the training pitch and I did well last season, so to get the reward is massive for me and I think it’s the next step.
"I went on loan last season and for me to come back here and extend my contract is brilliant for me and for my family.
"I’ll keep working hard every day and progress."
