Back to back matches for the Championship clubs

Let me get this out of the way. The visual I get from "Magpies draw Wolves" is tapping into my juvenile mind.

Had to get that out of the way.

What The Fates were doing during today's draw is a mystery, but the intensity of Cup and Championship play was ratcheted up a notch when it was disclosed Newcastle would be facing Wolverhampton in round three of the EFL Cup. While no date has been set for the contest, we do know it will occur just days after their September 17th league match.

Both will be hosted by Newcastle.

Wolverhampton has started strong under new coach Walter Zenga, presently sitting at third in the table, and without a loss. Joe Mason has proven a reliable striker, placing three balls in the net to lead the team. At midfield Jed Wallace has put together back to back performances worthy of concern, getting both a goal and an assist for his efforts.

Today the Wanderers obtained the services of defender Cameron Northwick-Jackson on loan from Manchester United.

Considering the importance of Cup play, and the obvious need for promotion back to the Premier League, it might be fair to frame these matches against Wolverhampton as early must-wins for Rafa.
