All of the recent rumors pegged Cian Harries as a future member of Liverpool. Reportedly, Jurgen Klopp’s side is still very interested in bringing the 19-year old aboard, but apparently so is Rafa Benitez.
Newcastle are now being linked to the Coventry City centre back as a player for the future. The youngster has made 15 appearances this season for Coventry. He debuted at the end of last season for Coventry, posting a clean sheet in the final match of the campaign.
Liverpool went as far as to have Harries on trial earlier this month, but surprisingly, he went back to Coventry without a deal in place. This looks to be a race against the clock to see who can sign him first between Liverpool and Newcastle.
There is no word yet on how much a potential deal for the teenager will be worth.
These reports of interest in Harries come as a bit of a departure from what most of the rumors have been surrounding the Magpies. Overall, it seems like Newcastle need a handful of short-term fixes at winger, striker and potentially left back. Harries may eventually prove to be a worthy player, but not until likely four years down the road.
It is clear that fans are hungry for a transfer, however, this is likely not what most had in mind when hopes of promotion loom. Harries might be on his way soon, but it might take a while for most Newcastle supporters to really care.
