Newcastle target Mo Barrow is bound for Elland Road for the rest of the season. The Swansea City attacking winger will bolster Leeds’ attack as they sit just a point off Reading for third in the Championship on Deadline Day. Barrow had featured 19 times this season for Swansea.
This is already the second signing Leeds made on Deadline Day, having landed a loan deal for Villareal’s Alfonso Pedraza earlier in the day.
The Magpies on the other hand are left empty handed starting down a potential deal for Andros Townsend, with little else in the works. For a team that desperately needed a makeover in the midfield, Newcastle have struggled to land targets in the January window. Barrow would have provided depth along the wing that Rafa Benitez’s side could use for the promotional push.
Missing out on Barrow is not much of a blow, he likely would not have been a game changer player that propelled Newcastle to an easy Championship title, but it highlights the team’s inability to bring in players.
Already this month, Newcastle have missed on Ruben Loftus-Cheek, James McCarthy (maybe), Callum Wilson, Robert Snodgrass, Tom Cairney and now Barrow. I’m sure I’m missing a few as well.
The only accomplishment the team has for this window is moving Cheick Tioté to China.
There are still a few hours left before the window slams shut on Newcastle. If the Magpies fail to bring anyone in, fans are going to be furious. Let’s hope that Townsend deal is close.
