If there is one position that Rafa Benitez seems intent on filling this month, it’s adding an attacking midfielder.

Newcastle seem to be interested in Norwich City’s star defender Robbie Brady though to nail down the position, according to the Chronicle. The £12 million rated left back has been linked with a move away from the Canaries since his sparkling performance in EURO 2016. Norwich have dropped their asking price down from £20 million, meaning that interest is reaching it’s peak.

In addition to the Magpies, Leicester, Aston Villa, Burnley, Crystal Palace, and Swansea are all interested in securing the soon to be 25-year old’s signature.

Brady is by no means a household name, after all he plays in the Championship, but he did score Ireland’s game-winning goal against Italy over the summer, pushing them through to the round of 16 in the tournament. He has been a staple for Norwich over the past two years after arriving from Hull City. This season, Brady has three goals and three assists to his name.

Despite finding himself bouncing around the Championship now, Brady actually started his career with Manchester United. He never earned a cap for the Red Devils, securing loan deals to Hull instead before making the move permanent in 2013. He has some Premier League experience, having played those years with Hull and last season with Norwich. At only 25, Brady should be entering the prime of his career soon, meaning that this investment would not be simply a move to secure promotion for Newcastle.

Newcastle might have to pay a little more to land the Ireland international, but if the loan deal for Ruben Loftus-Cheek falls through, signing Brady will become all the more important during the January window.
