After a few good results, Newcastle come away with a disappointing defeat against Burnley. The Magpies played well, but ultimately failed to find the back of the net, which cost them a chance at points.

Rob Elliot- 8
Made a handful of great saves. This game could have been more out of reach if not for his performance.

DeAndre Yedlin- 6
Put in a solid shift. He made a couple of mistakes in possession though. Struggling with his crossing as well.

Florian Lejeune- 6
Got caught out on the goal. Ran upfield and never truly tracked back. He and Yedlin left two wide open at the back post.

Jamaal Lascelles- 7
The defense allowed a couple of late shots and was pulled apart on the Burnley goal. Lascelles did his best to cover for Lejeune’s mistake.

Javier Manquillo- 6
Still needs to work on his control. Solid work defensively, but should close down a little more.

Jonjo Shelvey- 6
Had a great chance at net in the first half. Controlled the ball well. Looked visibly frustrated though when his teammates gave up possession.

Mo Diame- 5
I was surprised to see his name on the team sheet. Looked a bit wayward on offense. Had a couple of solid headed clearances.

Matt Ritchie- 6
A quieter game for Ritchie. He still made some searching runs down the flank. Worked one-twos well with Yedlin.

Ayoze Perez- 6
Came close to giving the Magpies an early lead. Still struggling to retain possession. He was the one that lost the ball that led to the goal for Burnley.

Christian Atsu- 8
His speed is still his best attribute, but Atsu put his field vision on full display. Just missed a chance to finish an early chance. Played a couple of nice balls into the box.

Joselu- 5
Not a great performance from the big man. He did not have many chances and struggled to get the ones he did have on target.

Isaac Hayden- N/A
Only played about 15 minutes. Did not have a huge impact.

Jacob Murphy- N/A
Really did not have enough time to make his presence felt.

Dwight Gayle- N/A
Made a late appearance as Rafa attempted to steal an equalizer.
