You may have already learned about DeAndre Yedlin’s thigh injury. You know, the one that kept him out of the Reading match? According to Rafa Benitez, he’s also set to miss a lot longer due to the injury. This doesn’t bode well for the club’s defense.
Rafa Benitez says the news on DeAndre Yedlin's injury is 'worse than expected'. #nufc

The club’s defense has been one of the weaker points this season. DeAndre Yedlin has been a bright light in that darkness. Playing in Yedlin’s place? Jesus Gamez. It’s okay if you don’t remember him, he’s our signing from Atletico Madrid and he hasn’t had many starts under Rafa Benitez.
But what does this mean in the long run? Well, obviously, it means we’ll be missing out on one of our top defenders. And as I wrote just a couple days ago, the club’s lead means nothing if they can’t sustain it. The draw against Reading was one misstep, and more could be on the way. It’s quite possible that Gamez finds himself starting more often, and depending on the form that he is in, that can be good or bad.
We really don’t have much information regarding the club’s defensive status with the injury of DeAndre Yedlin.
As it stands, Yedlin will not be playing in the club’s upcoming match against Fulham, and likely more. We’ll continue to follow the defense closely and see how the club copes with the loss of one of our better defenders.
