In tomorrow’s match against lowly Burton, Newcastle United is set to achieve a feat that has not been done in 65 years.
According to “The Mag” ,Newcastle United is set to welcome its 1 millionth fan of the season into St. James’ Park. So far, a total of 971,881 have attended the first 19 Championship games at St James Park at an average of 51,151.
The last time Newcastle United welcomed fan number 1 million into St. James’ Park was in the 1951-52 season. That season Newcastle won the FA Cup for the second year in a row, and finished 8th in the division. That season St. James’ Park saw one million and sixty thousand watched the 21 home games averaging around 50,476 per game.
Currently at the rate of fans St. James’ Park is averaging this season Newcastle United is set to destroy the 1951-52 total with two home games left. This comes at a time where Newcastle are in The Championship, and are owned by a man many fans hate. The magic of Rafa, Dwight Gayle, a shirtless Mitrovic, and the ever so energetic Matt Ritchie have propelled this Newcastle team into the history books.
