The spotlight has been on Rafa Benitez ever since Newcastle’s campaign ended.
The chronicle reported that Benitez and owner Mike Ashley had a meeting over the ideas of next season. This would include spending for new players, organization, and planning for future seasons ahead as Benitez may be aiming to stay with Newcastle for some years to come (he signed a three year contract last year).
The meeting was said to be very positive which is good news for Newcastle fans. Rafa had full control of new signees last summer, which was a large reason as to how Newcastle was able to secure promotion and win the Championship Title.
Ayoze Pérez explained the importance of keeping Benitez with the Magpies stating that “he is very important now and next season.” He would also say that under Benitez “the future would be very interesting.” Pérez is a very passionate player for Newcastle and scored 9 goals. He is a very important player for our future in the Premier League. But what is important is that Benitez has the players’ support and confidence.
Another man who was said to be at the meeting was Lee Charnely. Not too long ago, Charnley was arrested during the HMRC Raids. After his release, it is thought that Charnley’s job as Managing Director is safe and seems quite evident due to his presence at this meeting.
Although the talks went well, we will be keeping a close eye out on a second meeting between Ashley and Benitez.
