Rafa Benitez will remain Newcastle United manager next season after being given the assurances he had been asking for.

Many had been worried that given Mike Ashley's past history, and the debacle of January, that the club owner would restrict Benitez, which would lead to him leaving the club.

However, fears have been eased and fans can now look forward to an exciting summer ahead of the club's return to the Premier League.

Plans for the summer and beyond were discussed and a statement released by Ashley read:

“I’ve confirmed to Rafa and Lee that they can have every last penny that the club generates through promotion, player sales and other means in order to build for next season.”

It certainly will be music to the ears of supporters, who have really taken Rafa Benitez into their hearts. The vast majority will be absolutely delighted with the news.

Benitez himself offered up some words of encouragement as well, saying:

“I’m pleased with how the meeting went and the positive approach we are all taking together to build on what we have started this season.

“There will be challenges ahead of course, the summer will not be easy, but the hard work has been going on for some time and we can now continue positively with the development of the squad ahead of the start of the new season.

"I wish fans an enjoyable summer!”
