The home side were without Nakhi Wells, Jonathan Hogg, Martin Cranie and Gorenc Stankovic last weekend and all will again be missing against the Magpies. Jonathan Hogg may return after the international break, but the others will be sidelined for a longer period.
It is expected that they will be mostly unchanged after beating Crystal Palace 3-0 on the opening day.
Christopher Schindler and Mathias Jørgensen were very impressive as a centre back pairing and will probably take that into the Newcastle tie.
Aaron Mooy will start as always. The Australian is central to everything the Terriers provide going forward. His partner last weekend, Philip Billing, is also set to keep his place.

Steve Mounie bagged two goals at Selhurst Park and will no doubt start as a long striker. He will be backed up by an attacking trio of Tom Ince, Elias Kachunga and either Kasey Palmer or Collin Quaner.
Jonjo Shelvey is the obvious absentee for the visitors. After last weekend's red card, the midfielder will be forced to sit out of the next three matches. Mikel Merino will likely slot in to make his first start for Newcastle.
Florian Lejeune is out for a couple of weeks after a horrible challenge from Harry Kane. The new boy has damaged ankle ligaments.
Paul Dummett was another casualty against Spurs, when he pulled up with a hamstring injury early on. Ciaran Clark was deployed as a left full-back for the duration of the game, but Jesus Gamez could also come into Rafa Benitez's thinking.
DeAndre Yedlin is back in training, but the trip to Yorkshire will come too soon for him. Javier Manquillo will therefore continue at right-back.
Christian Atsu was easily the standout performer in the 2-0 defeat by Spurs. He is in line to play once again on the left wing, with Matt Ritchie being deployed on the opposite flank.
New signing Joselu will be desperate for a start up front, but given that he has only had a couple of training sessions with his new teammates, the likelihood is that Dwight Gayle will lead the line once again.
