Monday
Rafa Benitez spoke about his loss on Sunday. Benitez felt that Jonjo Shelvey’s mistake has cost them the match against Tottenham. Shelvey revealed that he is seeing a professional about his anger issues as well. Shelvey said “Look, sometimes I just need to reign it in on the football pitch. I need to just shut up and stuff. I need to not get involved and walk away. I started to see a psychologist last year to work on the mental side of things. It was after the Forest game. I was sent off. I had kicked out at this lad and it was just childish. When people wind me up I should just laugh. I do need to get that out of me. Sometimes you can’t help it.”
Newcastle are closing in on Joselu for a £5M deal. The transfer fee and personal terms are said to be agreed upon for the Spanish Striker. The deal is expected to be completed in the coming days.

SIGNING ALERT!
Joselu says he is very happy to be at Newcastle United after his transfer from Stoke City was completed today. The former Spain U21 International underwent a medical on Tuesday and agreed to a 3-year deal with the club. The 27-year-old is expected to be in the squad for Newcastle Premier League clash against Huddersfield Town on Sunday. The Striker said “I feel very happy because I have signed for a very big club. I’m very happy to be part of this club, and so excited. I’m looking forward to getting to know my teammates, the city, the training ground, the stadium and all the supporters.”
Rafa had this to say of Joselu:
“We have known Joselu since his days at the Real Madrid academy, and we know that he has the potential to do well for us. Obviously, he has experience of English Football and the Premier League and that was another thing we took into consideration. We think that if we can exploit his full potential he will be a good signing for us. He knows and accepts the challenge we’ve given him at Newcastle and he’s keen to come and fight for a position in the team.”
This transfer lays to rest the potential of signing Arsenal striker Lucas Perez. The player was already rumored to prefer a move back to Spain and this signing more or less proved that.

Sterry will give Rafa an option to be called up to the 1st team due to the injuries in the back four already.
Mikel Merino insists that he is ready to replace Jonjo Shelvey against Huddersfield. Shelvey will be banned for at least 3 matches. Talking about his fitness, Merino said “I am getting fitter. I am trying to get to 100% and stay there. I felt good after the Tottenham game, I’m strong and healthy. Let’s see, I have had one more week to be ready and get to 100% and I will be at my perfect capacity soon.”

Needless to say this was an absolute disaster of a match from the magpies. The club just couldn’t keep up, and the passing was abysmal. While we’re only two matches into the season, it’s safe to say that the club does not have all the pieces required to be a competitive club in the Premier League right now. Hopefully before the summer transfer window closes, we’ll see some improvement with the squad with at least two more signings.
