Newcastle United v West Ham United - A crucial clash heading into the first international break

In their third game back in the Premier League, Newcastle find themselves in desperate need for a win.

Newcastle winger Rolando Aarons will face a late fitness test after leaving St James' with cramp. Christian Atsu and Matt Ritchie are therefore likely to keep their places on the flanks.

Dwight Gayle will also be monitored ahead of the game. The striker has not been fully fit since the beginning of the season.

Keeper Karl Darlow is also out with a thigh problem, so Freddie Woodman will be named on the substitutes bench.

Defenders DeAndre Yedlin and Paul Dummett both have hamstring problems. They will not feature. Javier Manquillo and Chancel Mbemba were deployed as full-backs at Huddersfield last week, and the same could happen this week.

Neither will Florian Lejeune, who has an ankle injury. However, the Frenchman is close to returning.

Jonjo Shelvey completes his three-match ban and will be available after the break. Mikel Merino is set for a second consecutive start.

Manuel Lanzini has resumed training this week and could be set to make his return to the match day squad. It is however, doubtful he will be able to start the game

Andy Carroll is back in West Ham training after his latest lay-off due to a thigh problem, but is unlikely to play any part. The lone striker role will instead be taken up by Javier Hernandez, who is already off and running for his new club.

Winston Reid was stretchered off in the warm-up before the Hammers' game at Southampton last weekend. He is the only definite injury absentee. Jose Fonte or James Collins both provide options to partner Angelo Ogbonna.

Marko Arnautovic is suspended after a red card in the same game. Michail Antonio will start, as will Andre Ayew on the opposite flank.

Declan Rice is also in line for another start in the heart of midfield. The youngster has really caught the eye in the Hammers' opening fixtures.
