After 48 hours during which Newcastle looked willing to part with Gayle for £18 million and was considering an offer from Fulham for £15 million, it now looks unlikely that Gayle will be going anywhere this window, according to Ian Dennis at the BBC.
Newcastle United have decided to keep Dwight Gayle despite a big offer from Fulham. Guess hinged on getting in a replacement #NUFC #FFC

The most telling portion of this tweet is the last line - “Guess hinged on getting in a replacement.” It had been reported that any Gayle Sale™ would have been contingent upon lining up a replacement, with Cenk Tosun the most recent possibility. It now looks as though there is no one to replace Gayle, and this is as good a sign as any that the remainder of the transfer window will be a fruitless one for Newcastle in terms of players coming in.
