Newcastle U23s will be competing in this competition for the first time ever.

For the first time, Newcastle U23s will compete in an international tournament against some of the best clubs in the world.

The Premier League created the Premier League International Cup to showcase the best young talent in the world. The competition matches English category one academies against other elite European clubs in the u23 age group.

The competition was split into 6 groups. The six group winners and two best runners-up will advance to the quarter-finals.

Group A: Sparta Praha, Liverpool, Newcastle United, PSV Eindhoven

Group B: Hertha BSC, Legia Warsaw, Leicester City, Mackems

Group C: Derby County, GNK Dinamo Zagreb, Everton, Vfl Wolfsburg

Group D: Athletic Club Bilbao, Celtic FC, Manchester United, Swansea City

Group E: Arsenal, Bayern Munich, FC Porto, Reading

Group F: Benfica, Tottenham Hotspur, Villarreal CF, West Ham United

In the quarter-finals, it will be a one match knockout round with extra time and penalties until the final.

The competition started in 2014, and the past winners include Manchester City (2014-2015), Villarreal (2015-2016), and Porto (2016-2017).
